Does it earn its slot?
This is one of the rare things that sells for more than it costs: 20c at the shop against 40–60c from the appraiser. If you finish a run without needing it, it has still paid for itself — which makes it close to free insurance. Compare that with armour, where a 30-coin Breastplate returns 1–3.
It stacks to 3, so a full slot is worth up to 180 coin. Stack size is the number people forget: a slot of something cheap can out-earn a slot of something expensive that doesn't stack.
What a support slot is for
Support gear is what keeps a crew alive rather than what kills things. In a four-person expedition these are the slots you divide up: one person carries the revive, one carries the light, and nobody carries two of the same thing. A crew that all packed the same support item has wasted three slots.
The opportunity cost is the honest way to judge any of it. Your pack is the binding constraint, and the same slot could come home holding a Metal Idol worth 80–120 at the Basic tier and 560–840 at Legendary, or two bottles of wine at up to 720. At 40–60c, this item is not competing on resale — it earns its place through what it doesduring the run, or it doesn't earn it at all.
For the 20c this costs, the shop will also sell you a Helmet (15c, 20 defense) or a Longbow (15c, 60 silent damage). Whether that trade is right depends entirely on the contract — which is the argument for reading it before you shop.

Ammonia Salts questions
What does the Ammonia Salts do in The Mound?
Salt of hartshorn, and the only way to bring a downed crewmate back on their feet. Act fast: leave a body too long and the forest takes it, then sends it back as a Y'm-bhi. Three per pack, and every one of them is worth more than the coin.
How much is the Ammonia Salts worth?
It sells to the appraiser for 40–60c, against a shop price of 20c. It stacks to 3, so a full slot is worth up to 180 coin.
