Reading the specs honestly

The game runs on Unreal Engine 5, and the spec sheet reads like it: the minimum line targets 1080p with settings turned down, while the RTX 3070 tier is where dense foliage and dynamic lantern light stop costing frames you'd rather spend on not dying. GeForce cards get DLSS 4.5 (multi-frame generation plus the second-generation transformer upscaler) via the NVIDIA partnership. Two things in the sheet are worth noticing: the install is only 23 GB — small for a UE5 title, and Steam does not specify a drive type despite widespread claims that NVMe is mandatory — and the Intel Arc A770 callout in minimum means they actually tested Intel graphics, which small studios rarely bother with.

The cheapest benchmark is the free Steam demo: it's the same engine, same jungle, same systems. If it holds a frame rate you like, buy with confidence — and if you're on console instead, the PS5 and Xbox briefs cover those versions.

Spec questions

Can my PC run The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu?

You need at least an i7-8700K/Ryzen 5 1600X, 16 GB RAM and a GTX 1660 SUPER-class GPU under DirectX 12. The definitive answer is free: run the Steam demo — it's the same engine and assets.

What engine does The Mound run on?

Unreal Engine 5 — confirmed by multiple hands-on previews and the game's showcase on Epic's own UE forums.

Does The Mound support DLSS?

Yes — DLSS 4.5, including Dynamic Multi Frame Generation and the second-gen transformer Super Resolution mode, per Nacon's NVIDIA partnership announcement.

Do I really need an SSD?

Steam's listed requirement is 23 GB of available space and does not name a drive type, so an SSD is not formally required. It still helps: this is an Unreal Engine 5 game that streams a dense jungle and returns you to the galleon hub between expeditions, and players on mechanical drives report longer loads and more hitching.

Is 16 GB of RAM really required?

It's listed as the minimum and the recommendation. With 8 GB you're below spec — expect stutter in dense foliage even if the demo boots.
