When does The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu come out?
July 15, 2026 on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A free demo is on Steam now.
Is The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu crossplay?
Yes — crossplay is supported at launch across Steam, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, so a mixed crew can run expeditions together. Cross-progression (carrying your save between platforms) has not been confirmed.
How much does The Mound cost?
$29.99 for the standard edition and $39.99 for the Deluxe Edition, which adds the Temple of Yig mission, two extra playable characters and a gear cosmetics pack. Pre-orders run about 10% off on consoles.
How many players is The Mound?
Expeditions run with 1–4 players in online co-op. You can go in solo, but the game is tuned around a crew.
Is there couch or local co-op?
No. Co-op is online only — there is no couch, split-screen or local co-op mode. There is built-in proximity voice chat, so the game wants you talking in-world rather than on Discord.
Is The Mound free?
No, it's a paid game ($29.99). The free part is the Steam demo, which is live now and covers roughly the opening hours of the expedition loop.
What platforms is The Mound on?
PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a physical edition from Nacon. No Switch or last-gen versions have been announced.
Is The Mound scary?
It leans dread over jump scares: per-player hallucinations, comms you can't trust, and a forest that answers noise with an enemy wave. With a full crew it plays looser — Phasmophobia-style panic comedy in a Lovecraft coat. It's rated ESRB Mature 17+ for blood, gore and violence.
Can you play The Mound single player?
Yes — solo expeditions run with AI companions by default, and contract difficulty scales with the number of human players. A toggle to disable the companions isn't exposed in the demo (players are actively asking for one); we re-check at launch. It's harder alone either way: nobody can cross-check your hallucinations.
What is The Mound based on?
H.P. Lovecraft's 1930 novella “The Mound” (public domain), relocated from an Oklahoma mound to a conquistador-era cursed jungle. The manuscript author from the novella, Pánfilo de Zamacona, appears in the game directly.
Who is making The Mound?
ACE Team — the Chilean studio behind Zeno Clash, Rock of Ages and The Eternal Cylinder — published by Nacon. The jungle itself is modeled on Chile's own Valdivian rainforest.
Is The Mound open world?
No — it's expedition-based. Hand-designed regions open outward as contracts uncover forts and waypoints, but you deploy per contract rather than free-roaming one seamless map.
Is The Mound first person or third person?
First person only. No third-person mode has been shown or announced.
Does The Mound have PvP?
No — it's purely co-op PvE. The player-versus-player tension comes from the sanity system making you distrust your own crew, not from fighting them.
Can you play The Mound offline?
Yes — the developers confirmed offline play, and the PlayStation listing marks online play as optional. Solo expeditions come with AI companions by default; a disable toggle isn't exposed in the demo.
What engine does The Mound use?
Unreal Engine 5, with NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 support on PC. It's also why the PC version wants an NVMe SSD — the galleon hub loads are built around fast storage.
Is The Mound early access?
No — July 15, 2026 is a full 1.0 release on all three platforms, with post-launch additions (weapon blocking, token upgrades) already confirmed by ACE Team.
Can you jump in The Mound?
No jump button — the game uses vault mechanics for obstacles instead, in keeping with its grounded, encumbered-conquistador movement. It's the demo's single most argued-about design choice.
Can you block or parry in The Mound?
Not in the demo — but ACE Team has confirmed a weapon blocking system is coming in the launch window. Until then: shove (spacebar) interrupts attacks, and sidestepping dodges lunges.
Is The Mound replayable?
It's built as a run-based co-op habit, not a one-and-done campaign: contracts randomize objectives across hand-designed maps, ranks climb to 30, and the achievement list (all nine saints, 13 logbooks, 50 teammate revives) is tuned for the long haul.
