Does it earn its slot?
Bought at 60c and sold back at 1–2c, this loses money on a round trip — as almost all gear does. It is meant to be used, not traded. The question is only whether its effect is worth a slot on the run you carry it.
What a support slot is for
Support gear is what keeps a crew alive rather than what kills things. In a four-person expedition these are the slots you divide up: one person carries the revive, one carries the light, and nobody carries two of the same thing. A crew that all packed the same support item has wasted three slots.
The opportunity cost is the honest way to judge any of it. Your pack is the binding constraint, and the same slot could come home holding a Metal Idol worth 80–120 at the Basic tier and 560–840 at Legendary, or two bottles of wine at up to 720. At 1–2c, this item is not competing on resale — it earns its place through what it doesduring the run, or it doesn't earn it at all.
For the 60c this costs, the shop will also sell you a Crossbow (30c, 40 silent damage) or a Breastplate (30c, 40 defense). Whether that trade is right depends entirely on the contract — which is the argument for reading it before you shop.

Mask of Nyarlathotep questions
What does the Mask of Nyarlathotep do in The Mound?
Wear it and you read to others as an explorer who has already turned. The most expensive ordinary gear in the shop — only the story-critical Tulu cylinder is listed higher — and the only item that hides you rather than helping you fight.
How much is the Mask of Nyarlathotep worth?
It sells to the appraiser for 1–2c, against a shop price of 60c.
